Methods I Use to Help Clients Find Their Way
I use a combination of therapy approaches when I work with clients. I currently use the ideas from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) with most of my clients. This approach combines mindfulness skills with committed action toward values.
Here is a link to a great overview of ACT by Dr. Russ Harris:

I also have extensive training in psychodynamic psychotherapy. This type of therapy is evidenced-based and shown to be extremely effective based on many well-designed research studies. It can help to understand relationship patterns clients get stuck in. Jonathan Shedler, PhD, has written some excellent articles on the efficacy of psychodynamic therapy and his writing is accessible and easy to understand. Here is a link to some of his articles:

Additionally, I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). This type of therapy has more of a symptom-focused approach where one learns how irrational or distorted thoughts (which we all have) negatively impact feelings. In the 28 years I have been studying the field of psychology and human behavior, I have learned to blend many different approaches in order to best meet the needs of my diverse clients. I can truly say, I love my career and I feel so privileged to have the opportunity to walk alongside amazing individuals as they do the hard work of making their lives more meaningful.
